Carol Cherchio Bailey from Ocala FL writes, "I just came back from attending the "Varsity Reunion" held at the Cortland Elks Club, that was planned by Patty Abdallah Patriarco, Bev Morris Ryan, Maria Natoli Dillingham and Sue Rose? (don't remember her married last name) and it was one great affair. There were a lot of people there from the area and from far away, and it was great to see everyone. It was a word of mouth and Class Mates invitation and as I understand over 200 people attended. And of course Rose and Norm Abdallah were both there. They looked great, by the way! Proceeds went to the Cancer Society (it was a $5 donation to cover the entertainment) and I can't say enough good about the whole affair. Hope they have it again next year and more will attend. There were Varsity customers from St. Mary's and Cortland High there and even a few from Homer High. If you weren't there, you missed a great time. Congratulations to all who planned the function, you did one fine job."

If you have any historical information or photographs that would help us in documenting the baker’s history please contact us. We would love to include it all in our history being developed for historical sites or museums. The Antils lived on Helen Ave in Cortland (6 boys and 2 girls) – The Durkees lived in Homer (5 girls and 4 boys)."

Ron Volbrecht from Melbourne FL writes, "I lived in Central New York for 40 years. I worked at the Cortland Lafayette Radio Store in the 70's. I met the singing star Linda Scott while I was there. She has since moved to NYC and is a teacher at a Catholic School. Her brother Bill lived in Cortland at the time as well. Does anyone know how to get in touch with her? She was such a sweetheart and I would like to see what she's up to now. She has a son who would be in his 30's by now. He may still be in Cortland. Her real last name was Sampson. I would greatly appreciate it if anyone could give me any information about her. On another subject, I had heard that some of the big wigs at Brockway were going to try and start the company up down here in Florida. Does anyone know how that went?

Robert Johnson from Newnan GA writes, "Hello Cortland NY & class of '91, as many others have happened accross this page so did I and so I thought I'd stop by to say hello and catch you up. I am still in the Army, 15 years, whew where did the time go? Anyhow, I returned February 2, 2005 from my year in Iraq, although not the best year I've had, was good none-the-less and even ran into Eric Yaeger while I was there, what a strange place to run into your classmate, eh! I've been married now for going on 3 wonderful years and God has blessed us with a wonderful and vibrant 5-month old little boy, born on Nov 28 2005 at 8:38am, weighing 8lbs 8oz and 21.01 inches long. My family and I have received our new assignment and will be leaving from our home currently in Steilacoom (outside Tacoma) Washington and will be moving down to Newnan, GA where I'm being stationed with 3rd Army at Fort Mcpherson just outside Atlanta GA. We've bought our first house down in Newnan which is Southwest of Atlanta and about a 20-45 minute commute each way every day. I look forward to hoping catching our 20 year reunion, but if any of the Class of '91 is ever down around Atlanta shoot me an email and maybe we can meet and catch up. Take care and God bless!

Neal Ericksen from Sunnyvale CA writes, "GREAT STORY! When I was growing up in Cortland, in the 60's and 70's, I always wondered what happened to everyone there. I thought as a lot of kids did, that I was destined to live my life there, and never do anything worth while. Well, in 1973, that all changed. I moved! Yep, to San Jose, California. Been on the move ever since. Anyway, after joining the US Marine Corps, and traveling all over, I was stationed onboard a ship, the USS Belleau Woods. Long hot days at sea, on a crowded ship, 2500 other Marines and Sailors. Kinda feeling a little depressed one day, and then a thought came to me. How lucky I was. How many people from Cortland, get to do this? Travel half way around the world? Visit all these strange and wonderful lands, meet all the people I did, hell, I even lived in Hawaii for a few years. Then one day, after a month or so at sea, I came across a sailor giving me a strange look. When we finally spoke to each other, I found out it was one of my best friends from elementary school (Randall). So Virginia, people from Cortland do get to leave now and then........."

Shirley Towers CHS 1973 from Sanger CA writes, "I see so many familiar names. I remember Cortland from about 1968 - 1977. Jr. high, high school. Good memories: blizzarding days when we got to stay home from school; sledding in Beaudry Park followed by hot cocoa in our kitchen; skiing at Greek Peak; fabulous springtimes, flowers everywhere, violets bursting out of every crack in the sidewalk and ditches lined with orange daylillies; waves of lilac scent on a wet, warm late spring night; fall colors like nowhere else, so many colors; autumn sweater weather; summer rain and clouds and storms; hikes in the lush woods; swimming at the quarry and Little York Lake; the deer and pond at the Waterworks; Home Dairy cookies and treats; Chaffee's Chocolate Shoppe and the jukebox there; many lovely old homes. Unpleasant memories: wet boots, numb toes, wet mittens, numb hands and ears and nose; that miserably despressing old junior high school with all the plumbing wrapped in insulation exposed in the hallways; long, cold, snowy winters--too long; rain and snow and more rain and snow; being new in town and not having any friends; too many dark, dank bars--depressing just to walk by these places; too many short, dark, dank days in wintertime; lonliness; lousy jobs; swelteringly hot summer nights with no air conditioning, not one breeze; small town cliques; feeling oppressed by it all; shoveling snow. I wonder about the people I knew, though, what happened to them....what happened to me is I was moved, moved again, married for 17 years very unhappily, then divorced, moved to California and now I teach school, which I love. Happily remarried. Three daughters. Some of my siblings have mostly happy memories and return to Cortland from time to time to visit friends. The name above is not my real name, but if I gave it I doubt anyone would recognize it. If someday I visit Cortland, it will be bittersweet and anonymous, not to see old friends, of whom there are none, but to muse and remember those unequalled springtimes and splendid falls."

I would also appreciate any information on locating Cheri Henderson (maiden name). After 36 years it's wonderful to be back home. For anyone from Marathon or trying service wise to locate Bob Hall I regret to inform you that he passed away in 1998. Dawn Andrews-Winn from Deland FL writes, "I am looking for any news or info on the next reunion for the Cortland High School Class of '75. It should be the 30th year reunion, in the summer of 2005. Will there be one? Will it be more than an evening of drinks at Holiday Inn? If I am coming almost 2600 miles (roundtrip) then I would like it to be worth my while. Haven't attended one yet, due to the timing being off, (August is a bad month in FL to travel- school starts here in the 2nd week of August.) and activities being not worth coming that far for so little planned. We've got 2 years folks! What are we doing??? I want to hear from you! Anyone may email me, and it's even better if you remember me, which I will bet many don't. Prove me wrong! :) I am married, and my maiden name was Andrews. I hyphenated it, and I have 2 children. A senior, set to graduate this spring of 2004, and a kindergartener, who is Autistic. My parents still live in Cortland, as did I off and on for many years, until 1992. I miss Cortland, but not the ICE and SNOW! Email me if you wish!"

Connie Jennings from Buffalo NY writes, "What a spectacular visit to Cortland on 10/11 to see my son, Nathan Laun, get married on E.River Rd at the home of Lillian Jennings, his grandmother. It was 72 and bright blue skies. The yard was ablaze with red, yellow, orange and green leaves and mums everywhere. I was born in Cortland, his father was also born there as was Nathan but we moved away when he was 2. Now Nathan is studying for his PhD at Cornell. Everyone in Cortland was so helpful to us and we had a wonderful time. Many thanks to my sister, Pat O'Rourke, Cortland's official flag lady who lives on East Ave and truly has a different flag out each day of the year. She and husband Gerry were marvelous hosts. Wish I could have seen my classmates from SMS '69, but maybe I'll make it to a reunion in the future. Right now I'm a supervisor at Erie Co. DSS in Buffalo working to find homes for kids. Thanks to all of you in Cortland who made this past weekend so memorable."

Neal Ericksen from Newark CA writes, "Don't let anyone tell you that you can't go home. Because over the 4th of July weekend, I did just that. I was born and raised in Cortland, I lived in the white house on the corner of Pendleton hill, and Northcliffe. I watched the high school and bus garage be built, as well as the town houses they put on my winter sled hill. But I visited my home for the first time in years. I loved it. The town overall is as I remember. Some name changes on the business, and a few other things. Brockway is long gone, and SCM where I waited each day for my mom to get off work is gone. I spent hours in 281 bowling alley on saturday nights, and I see the soft ice cream stands have not fallen yet either. My house belongs to someone else now, but is is as I remember, except the trees I planted are much bigger now. The ugly smoke stack from Wickwire bros is gone, but so are the water towers. I loved hearing the bells from the Presbyterian church steeple as I remember long ago. Some friends were still there, and did their mothers smile when they figured out who I was. I heard a John Wayne quote that put it as best as I could describe. (forgive the spelling) "Mis raisas esta aki" it translates into "my roots are buried here" need I say more. I love and miss my town, my home will forever be Cortland...seven valleys, the place where SCM was kicking IBM's butt for years, and Husky town, USA!"

Wesley Foster from Greenville MI writes, "Hello Cortland. I left in October of 1969. I just thought I'd tell you I found a real job, and found some real and caring people. I don't have fond memories of my school years there, or trying to find a job in Cortland afterward. I attended Virgil Central School in the early '60's, and again during the '64-'65 school year. I was picked on unmercifully for being handicapped (Cerebral Palsy), which was something that I couldn't help and sure didn't ask for. The lame-brained teachers that were there then are retired by now, I'm sure. I've always wished they had consulted with a medical professional before they declared judgement on me and decided that I was "walking worse" than I needed to to get attention. Believe me, that couldn't have been any farther from the truth! To damned bad they wouldn't listen!"

Dave Beach from Cortland NY writes, "Well Hey, Here's a name that people should not forget... Looking to get in touch with old friends from the Class of 83. We really did it right back then. I moved from the Cortland area in 1986 to Daytona Beach, Fla. Tropics did not suit me well so I returned and left again in 1993 to move to Alabama, where I pursued a career as an "Apprentice Maritime Engineer" for 3 years out of the Dallas area--then my feet brought me back north once again...I have been back since 1997 and have finally started my own computer repair service "Elite Dynamics"...I have worked hard to get this established and am hoping that it will turn out to be a successful business venture. I am also looking to get in touch with some former classmates from my early years as a "Hell Raiser"... You might be impressed by how far I have come... Brenda Sickmon - if you are out there please give me a shout, and Paul Alteri, if you should ever see this, I know just how the rebels down there can be - they will be fighting the Civil War well beyond the Armageddon (ha!ha!)... If anybody would like to reach out to me, feel free to give me a shout (607)-758-8678. To all those who do know me, and thought I was long since dead and gone - Well, I guess I am just a bit too sly to let the "Grim Reaper" tag me for that proverbial dirt nap... Best Wishes to all, and good luck to all those I have not mentioned... As Ever "The Storm"
